Are you experiencing shoulder pain as a result of a rotator cuff injury?

The words themselves make people cringe. But let’s understand what these incredible muscles are really all about.

The shoulder joint is one of the most, unstable joints in our body. The rotator cuff muscles are more specifically known as the Suprispinatus, Infraspinatus, Teres Minor, and Subscapularis.

These 4 muscles act in conjunction with each other to stabilize and balance all the movements of the shoulder joint, otherwise known as the glenohumeral joint. As long as these muscles are relatively strong and healthy, our shoulder works perfectly. This allows us to do all the things we take for granted such as: drive our car, open and close doors, blow dry our hair (if we have any), get dressed, etc.

When these muscles become damaged or laden with fibrous adhesion (scar tissue) from being overworked or simply from being alive for more than 20 years, we experience pain when performing everyday tasks. Furthermore, if left untreated, this scar tissue leads to increased wear and tear on the tendons and attachments of these rotator cuff muscles. The result? Torn rotator cuff tendons and damaged labrums, eek!!

Even if you have been diagnosed with a tear at Prime Spine Associates, it’s not the end of the world. Many tears are only partial tears, meaning the tendons are not completely separated from their attachments.

This is great news, because it means the muscle is still capable of doing its job. With a reasonably small amount of treatment to reduce the adhesion that originally caused this partial tear, you can get back to normal and shoulder pain free rather quickly.

To get your Rotator Cuff muscles treated before these conditions cause long-term damage, give our Orchard Park chiropractors a call and set up an appointment with Dr. Zelasko at 716-677-5525 immediately.
